about me

Vows by Karen

Alberta Marriage Commissioner

40 years ago, I moved to Sturgeon County and quickly realized I was home. I married a local farmer and began my journey in agriculture. On our first date he took me to see the cattle, and I knew I was hooked. Together, we have three wonderful adult children, and nine grandchildren that amaze us everyday. We also own a cow/calf operation that has been in the family for over 110 years. Although I wasn't born into farming, I feel a strong connection with the land and the animals. When I am not working, I love to be on my horse checking cattle, or just enjoying Alberta's breathtaking scenery.

I love being active and trying new things, especially with my family. Our favourite things to do together are downhill skiing, camping, and having family game night with a ton of food and good company. By the end of the night we never remember who won, all we know is that our sides ache from laughing.

I have previously owned my own small business for over 25 years and currently sit as a Council representative for Sturgeon County, where I have served for the past 10 years. In addition, I have been a lifelong volunteer, whether it was minor hockey, baseball, curling club board, dancing, 4-H or any other number of community service boards, I was always ready to roll up my sleeves and give back. Currently I volunteer as an assistant leader with Alberta 4-H and help out with worthy organizations such as Northlands, A Safe Place Women's Shelter and various community service advisory boards. I am also actively involved with the Rainbow Equitation Society, where you can find me cooking hamburgers twice a year at our site clean up, clearing trails, or helping out at a casino and other fundraisers.  I am honored to now be able to continue my public service through a Marriage Commissioner appointment for the Province of Alberta.

I look forward to meeting you and to helping you plan the wedding ceremony that is perfect for you and your partner!
